My Younger Brother Forces My Flower Path | Chapter 1

Chapter 1: My Younger Brother Killed the Emperor and Came to See Me

It was a sunny spring day.

Laviel had been standing by the window of the Oval Office since morning. Staring at her long pink hair, standing in an undisturbed posture, Countess Sutton’s butler swallowed a dry cough for no reason.

Looking out of her window impatiently, Laviel looked back at her butler and asked the question she’d just asked a while ago, again.

“Is there still no news from Eddy?”

“Yes, Countess. Not yet…”

“Where the world is he at a time like this?”

Laviel turned her head to face the window again as she worried about her brother – Eddy, who she hadn’t seen in days. She was never one to worry obsessively or be easily agitated, but today wasn’t a day to be calm.

Last night, the Philland of the Seven Hills Empire had been overthrown. According to the rumours, unidentified soldiers had executed the last Emperor of the ruling Haldair family, a tyrant who’d been abusing his power.
TL/N: Philland is the capital of the empire.

Like most of the people in the Empire, Laviel had locked the doors of the estate and kept an eye on the situation. As the Head of the Sutton family, she’d made the decision to remain neutral until they knew who’d taken over the palace and the Seven Hills Empire.

Yet, in the midst of this mess, she still didn’t know where her younger brother Eddy had gone, and because of this, she was anxious.

That child. I raised you with love and care, yet you run away from home at a time like this??

You rascal. When you come back, you’re grounded for a year.

Laviel was grinding her teeth anxiously when suddenly, a servant rushed into her office and shouted with a trembling voice, “C-Countess! Soldiers! Soldiers are surrounding the estate!”

“What?”

Laviel’s emerald eyes flashed as she spun around. Soldiers during this time of unrest…this definitely wasn’t a good sign.

Her butler, who had been assisting the Countess for many years, spoke in a solemn voice.

“I will go out to meet them, Countess. It’s best if you escape, just in case.”
TL/N: Hehe see that rhyme we did there ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Laviel shook her head as she looked at the butler, his face full of loyalty and worry for her. She walked towards the door without any hesitation, refusing the offer.

The soldier, who wore black uniforms, had already reached the front entrance. Between the soldiers that lined up on both sides of the long road, a man riding a black horse slowly approached.

The butler, who’d followed Laviel with a pale and tired face, took a look at the man’s face and rubbed his eyes in disbelief. On top of the horse, the young man saw Laviel and grinned.

“Ha…”

Laviel laughed in amazement, and the young man on the horse – the mastermind of the rebellion who’d slit the emperor’s throat just last night- Edwin Sutton, waved his hand with a wide smile.

“Sis~ter~”

He jumped off the horse and ran towards Laviel, his pink hair, the same colour as his sister, fluttering with every step, and his green eyes that resembled Laviel’s hidden because of his broad smile.

Laviel felt instantly relieved. The younger brother who she’d been worried about all along seemed to be well and in good shape. Yet, she’d been so worried to the point that she was both angry and dumbfounded at the sight of this sudden entourage.

She didn’t know how to react or what to do, but Edwin knelt in front of her. He placed his right arm on his chest, performing a gesture that should only be done to the Emperor and looked up at Laviel.

And, his left hand held something that wasn’t supposed to be there.

“Sister, I’ve brought you a present that suits you.”

“Don’t tell me…the gift can’t be the one in your hand, right?”

“Why not? This belongs to you now, sister.”

Edwin proudly held out a large gold crown resplendent with jewels. It was the crown that belonged to the Emperor of the Seven Hills Empire, the very crown that’d- until yesterday, sat on the head of the last Emperor of the Haldair family.

“Were you…”

“Hm? What?”

“Were you the crazy guy who started this rebellion?”

Laviel grabbed Edwin, who was spinning the Emperor’s crown around his finger. She’d always known that this rascal right here was bound to get into an accident someday, but never had she imagined that he would stir up such a major thing like this.

Treason, treason!

Edwin smiled brightly as Laviel swayed a little on the spot.

“Didn’t you say you wanted to be emperor?”

“When did I ever-!”

“Don’t you remember winter two years ago? You said you’d do better if you were the emperor.”

Well, of course she didn’t remember, but ever since she’d become the Countess, she’d muttered dozens of complaints about the ruling family before.

“How could I say that!”

“I asked you back then, ‘Sister, do you want to become the Emperor?‘’ Then, sister laughed and said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it if you give me a chance’, and now, I’m doing exactly that?”

Laviel’s hand, which had been vigorously shaking Edwin back and forth, suddenly lost her strength.

Edwin snatched her hand and kissed the back of it, placing the Emperor’s crown on his beloved sister’s head. He smiled brightly, looking at the crown glistening on top of her pink hair as if he owned the entire world. Then, Edwin turned triumphantly and shouted at the soldiers.

“Now, return to the Imperial Palace! Escort the new Emperor!”

“Yes!”

Drowned by the soldiers’ loud response, no one heard Laviel’s muttering.

“Hey…you crazy bastard…!”

Edwin ran down the stair, visibly excited, and opened the door to the Imperial carriage which was as spendley furnished as the crown. He gestured to laviel.

“Come on, sister! Everyone’s waiting for you!”

Laviel barely managed to hold back the words she so desperately wanted to shout at him, to tie him to his bed and nail him to the floor. Even though Edwin was known as the most handsome and capable person in all of Philland, he was, after all, still her lovely little brother. But now…she was beginning to wonder if she’d raised him wrong.

Laviel carefully held the crown with her trembling hands so as to prevent it from falling. Sighing deeply, she walked over to Edwin, who was smiling once more and beckoning to her.

It was time for the spilled water to be collected.
TL/N: A metaphor, meaning to restore order to the Empire and correct everything the previous Emperor had done wrong.

Under the sultry spring sunlight, Edwin marveled at Laviel, who was descending the stairs with a dignified composure, as always.

No one would ever usurp her of her throne, he would make sure of that. In fact, even if someone tried, he would just get rid of them. From the moment Laviel had joked about wanting to become the Emperor, that golden crown had existed only for her.

With Edwin on his black horse leading, Laviel and the members of the Sutton estate entered the Imperial palace. The palace officials, who stayed up all night to wipe out the bloodstains of last night, lined up in front of the Imperial Palace. They were afraid of Edwin, who was running like a demon, and of Laviel, whom Edwin had brought as emperor.

After all, they were the ones who’d killed the former emperor and taken over the empire. Rumours were raging that the Suttons would execute all the officers who’d served under the previous Emperor.

With Edwin’s escort, Laviel stepped down from the carriage lightly. Looking up at the palace with an expressionless face, Laviel walked calmly towards it, the court ladies following her nervously.

When the new emperor who’d taken over the blood-stained throne was asked where she would go first, Laviel headed towards the Emperor’s office, a place that’d been neglected for quite some time.

“Grand Chamberlain.”

With a clear voice, the grand chamberlain answered beside her.

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Looking down upon the trembling servant with an indifferent gaze, Laviel commanded, “Tell the administrators of the former emperor to bring all the documents that outline the state of the Imperial finances and administration.”

At this unexpected command, the grand chamberlain looked at the new emperor with a dumbfounded expression, but when Edwin clicked his tongue disapprovingly, he quickly nodded and ran out of the room.

Laviel, called the butler she’d brought from the Sutton estate as she observed the office.

“Butler.”

“Yes, Countess. Ah no, Your Majesty.”

Undaunted by this unfamiliar-sounding title, Laviel pointed her chin towards Edwin, who was beside her, laughing softly.

“Tie him to that desk so he won’t be able to get into any more trouble.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Just like that, the Seven Hills Empire welcomed its new emperor.

And so, the reign of Laviel Sutton, the First Emperor of the Sutton family, began.
